The Details
Personality: Strengths
Mark is logical and calculated in his thoughts, giving him less of a chance to make a decision based on pure emotion. He is adept at making plans and listing goals for research plans and projects; he is as productive as they come. He also has the face of someone that could do no harm or pose a serious threat.
Weaknesses
Mark needs tidiness to survive. If his papers are disorganized, he will become severely distressed. He has been relatively sheltered for the past 19 years and is unable to fight for himself, requiring the assistance of others to defend him.
History: Mark Bradford was born February 12th, 1981 on the lake shore of Wisconsin. In the small tourist town of Bayfield, Mark attended the only school house in the area with 42 other students. With the increased intimacy compared to city schools, it was expected that teachers would be able to perform better and help each student individually learn, but only the opposite occurred. Surprisingly, Mark graduated junior high school at the top of his grade and was often treated with privileges that other students would not be allowed access to like dinner with his teacher and specialized tutoring. However, his entire life was uprooted when his father was given a job offer he couldn’t deny in Oceanic City as an Oncologist. The only upside to moving was the change in school district which allowed Mark to learn at his full potential instead of being limited by the bureaucracy in Bayfield.
Mark had trouble adjusting to the new environment of city life in contrast to his humble upbringing. For one, he was surrounded by diversity that had never seen any precedent in Bayfield. With hundreds of students at his high school, it was impossible to get to know each one individually like he’d done in his old town. Instead of focusing on the social grandeur of his golden years, he put all of his efforts into his school work. He found himself excelling in math and sciences and derived joy from crunching numbers. Eventually, he graduated in the class of ’99 with a full-ride academic scholarship to the University of Oceanic.
Mark pursued higher education at the University of Oceanic– in the field of science—specifically chemistry. He was infatuated with crystal lattices and chemical structures with new compounds being added to the periodic tables in recent times. He wanted to establish himself in the name of science, be written about in history books, and praised for his discoveries. After graduating, he went on to become a school teacher in Detroit to assist underprivileged youth desperate to learn in their collapsing infrastructure. Meanwhile, he was writing research papers and scholarly works about cancer building on insight from his father. He was given recognition for engineering potential treatments as well as pain management medications. When he returned to Oceanic, he pursued a Doctorate of Philosophy in Cancer Biology to aid in research shortly before the virus plagued the world.
Mark was only 33 when the virus hit. Everything happened so quickly that he lost touch with his family and friends almost immediately. He joined a group of survivors in a frantic attempt to find safety amidst the chaos of a large city being unable to control the outbreak. For years they built up a stable, hardy encampment in the woods of north farmland . People came and left, died and survived, but they were stable enough to last. Mark was the camp’s research specialist, so he often went on excursions for minerals, herbs, and other naturally occurring chemical compounds. One day, he was careless enough to become entrapped by a horde of zombies. Forced to flee south, he was separated from his group until discovering the ruins of oceanic city.
